Santa in the City 5k Charity run

We gathered in Paternoster square where the Lord Mayor himself started off the race.  The rain that had been forecast, thankfully, failed to materialise and we all set off at a slow pace until the field thinned out a bit.  The course crosses to the south side of the Thames, passed the Globe theatre and then re-crosses the river at Southwark Bridge hugging the embankment almost as far as HMS Belfast where it turns north and along Upper Thames Street back to Southwark Bridge.  Over to the south bank again, round Borough Market and finally along the embankment to go back over the Millennium Bridge.  Somewhere along the way we got separated, but which of us crossed the finishing line first is going to remain a secret!

United Guilds' Service: march 2019

Masters and Clerks' dinner

The United Guilds Service was first held in 1943 to lift the spirit of wartime Britain, and was followed by an ‘austerity lunch’ at Mansion House.  It has gone on to become one of the annual major events in the Civic calendar, and is an opportunity to enjoy the full pageantry display of the Livery, and attended by the Lord Mayor, the Sheriffs and the gowned and badged Masters of all the Livery Companies along with a number of members of each Company.   The service usually consists of hymns, readings and an address, with the Dean of St Pauls and the Bishop of London officiating.   Afterwards most Companies have a lunch for the members who attended, typically joining up with other Companies to make a larger party. Registration will open in early 2019.
